Introducing “M”

Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are those who do (Steve Paul Jobs)

Getting Smart. It was a late evening of 2015 summer in one of the Metropolitan University lecture rooms in the beautiful city of London, United Kingdom and I can still remember the oddity of that moment and the weird look on the faces of my course mates and the Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship tutor when I declared that I wanted to mentor 1,000,000 brands in Africa. It is now over a year and it all makes sense: I was either naive or just daydreaming. It turns out that I am actually both. I have since scaled back on the initial number in a bid to make the goal SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actualisable, Realistic and Time-bound) and to crown it, I now have a strategy which of course is evolving. I am not under any illusion that the scale back from 1,000,000 to 1,000 will make this easier to achieve. If my MA, Entrepreneurial Leadership taught me anything useful, it is the idea of failing forward fast!

I am following my gut feel and investing myself into an idea that I hope will change me and others.

In the flow. I have sincerely struggled in the last few months to crystallize the strategy for actualizing this Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) of mentoring 1,000 brands by 2025 but the last few weeks have been an amazing deluge of inspiration. Suffice to say I have been in the flow. There are many questions that has to be considered with respect to setting up any platform especially a Mentorship platform. I have had the joy of being a part of a few mentorship programmes and from what I know, it takes a lot of organisation to make a success out of them. So, what am I bringing to the table knowing fully well that I am just a single individual with no deep pocket? Why 1000? There is a long list of questions. In many ways, this is an experiment for me; I am following my gut feel and investing myself into an idea that I hope will change me and others. My book “MORE” is scheduled to be released sometime in 2018. Again, the story of how that came to be is a subject of another writing. I am just grateful to the Creator who has poured down a blessing; a life-changing insight to say the least.

It turns out that in Roman Numerals, the letter M is the symbol for 1,000! And not only that (wait for it), it is also used to represent 1,000,000 with a slight differentiation of a straight bar line below (M-bar).

“M” is here. To mentor 1000, it behooves on one to have a strategy which require amongst many other things a way to deliver; a “Fulfillment System” and so it was that on my way home from work on the 29th of September, 2017, an idea sprung up while I was thinking of what name to call the platform. The initial idea was to create an exclusive club and call it “Club M”; I checked Google and it returned some interesting searches that pointed to the proliferation of “Club M” and other variants (“M Club, The Club M, etc). Then came the EUREKA moment and God bless my primary school Maths teacher wherever he or she is for this breakthrough. It turns out that in Roman Numerals, the letter M is the symbol for 1,000! And not only that (wait for it), it is also used to represent 1,000,000 with a slight differentiation of a straight bar line below (M-bar). I have had a fair share of this kind of moments where things sort of align in time and space but this one is truly magical and to be cherished. So, the mission to mentor 1000 individuals by 2025 is on! I should not get ahead of myself but I have a feeling that we will soon be looking at the 1,000,000 mark in a not too distant future if the King tarries.
